ORLEN Południe on the Biofuel Market

20-04-2016

ORLEN Południe is the strategic sponsor of the 9th Meeting of Fuel Industry – Polish Fuel Market. The event is organised by Information Market and takes place on 20 and 21 April 2016 in Krynica Zdrój. It has been supported by ORLEN Południe from the first edition.

During the meeting, the representatives of the industry will discuss the most significant matters related to the biofuel market with experts from across Poland.
Manufacturers of liquid biofuels, bio-components, the representatives of fuel entities , potential bio-component investors, the representatives of state institutions, and the organisations from the industry as well as lawyers and business consultants will take part in the conference.

The specialists of ORLEN Południe will discuss matters related to the reduction of GHG (greenhouse gases) emission levels with respect to biofuels. In accordance with the Act on Biofuels and Liquid Bio-components, the reduction of GHG-emission levels with respect to biofuels/bio-components increases from 35% to 50%. Due to the new legal provisions, it will not be possible to apply the standard value of GHG-emission with respect to esters produced on the basis of rapeseed oil.

In the years to follow, we will observe how particular elements of supply chain of the biofuel market adopt to the
transition from standard reference values to the new ones. Most of the time, the supply chain indicates emission levels subject to the present market conditions – usually partial default values – which may constitute an obstacle to market operations in the future.

To stay ahead of the legal requirements introduced with respect to the biofuel market participants, ORLEN Południe had implemented the provisions in question several years ago. In connection with a considerable experience in the transition from the standard values to the new ones, the company's representatives will share practical knowledge with the participants to the event.

The company consistently develops bio specialist segment, focusing on know-how and a number of optimisation activities that are fundamental to the development of biorefineries.  In 2015, degumming facility was launched. It  enabled to improve the raw material for the bio facility and, by the same token, it had a significant impact on the economics of processes, improving efficiency and profitability.

As for the facility used for ester and glycerine production that was launched in 2005, gradual modernisations enabled to increase efficiency by 50%. In 2015, the company broke the record – it produced a total of 150 thousand methyl esters of higher fatty acids.
